OSCE: Parties ready for level of escalation not witnessed before
The OSCE has recorded an increase in the number of heavy weaponry along the contact line in the ATO area and the lack of heavy weapons in the places of storage, where they had been previously stationed.
Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Alexander Hug said this at the briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"We are seeing efforts to strengthen the line of fortifications on both sides, as well as an increase in personnel in those areas and setting up the training camps there. At the same time, the death toll among the civilian population rises, the infrastructure is being destroyed, crossing of the contact line by civilians becomes more complicated. In addition, we observe that the parties are ready for such a level of escalation, which we have not witnessed before," Hug stressed.
According to him, these factors on the whole have led to an increase in attacks in the areas, where a relative lull was previously observed, and resumption of hostilities in Donbas hotspots.
