Ukrainian film about EuroMaidan Revolution loses out at Oscars 2016

‘Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom' was nominated for best documentary feature

At this year's Oscars, a film about Ukraine's Euromaidan anti-government protests has failed to pick up an award.

‘Winter on Fire: Ukraine's 'Fight for Freedom' lost out to a biographical film about British singer Amy Winehouse in the best documentary features category.

Amongst the other highlights; Leonardo DiCaprio, finally winning his first Oscar having been nominated no less than six times in the past.

Also, the award for best foreign language film went to Hungarian Film ‘Son of Soul' – based on a Jewish man's story in a Nazi-death camp.

Mad Max: Fury Road and Spotlight also took top honours. But after months of debate about Hollywood's lack of diversity, all eyes were on host Chris Rock.

He didn't pull any punches in addressing the issue. It was a topic unavoidable on the night.
